1967 Corvette – KATECH 500ci / Art Morrison Chassis / $600K+ Build

This is not your average ’67 Corvette. This is a full-blown race car built for the street — and one of the most violent, visceral cars you will ever drive.

Originally purchased at Barrett-Jackson for pennies on the dollar, this incredibly straight-bodied ’67 already had a KATECH 500ci engine installed. The car was then taken to an extremely well-known shop in Boca Raton, Florida, where essentially the entire car was gone through and brought to an entirely different level.

The heart of the car is a KATECH 500 cubic-inch (8.2L) naturally aspirated V8, an engine that alone cost approximately $130,000. Estimated output is around 600 horsepower and 700+ lb-ft of torque. This is believed to be the only street-driven car in the world running a KATECH 500ci engine.

The car originally ran KATECH individual throttle-body stacks, but that setup was simply too violent for street driving. It has since been converted to a BTR single-throttle-body setup, making it more manageable while still being an absolute handful.

The rest of the car is equally serious:

This thing handles on rails. It is a genuine race car for the street with the manners turned down and the adrenaline turned way up.

The car will absolutely drive itself if you let it. With 700+ lb-ft of torque, this is not a car for someone learning how to drive a high-powered manual. I would not recommend power-shifting 1st to 2nd unless you know exactly what you’re doing. It is still an absolute riot, but it demands respect.
